# Install or upgrade Trellix Agent

Install the Trellix Agent on endpoints to stream endpoint activity data for real-time threat detection, investigation, and response.

Installation and upgrade of Trellix Agent 5.8.x on endpoints can be performed using multiple deployment methods.

### Install Trellix Agent 5.8.x

You can install Trellix Agent 5.8.x from Trellix ePolicy Orchestrator - On-premises (ePO - On-prem) or Trellix ePolicy Orchestrator - SaaS (ePO - SaaS) on **[Windows](/docs/on-windows-systems-1)**, **[Linux](/docs/on-linux-systems-1)**, and **[Macintosh](/docs/on-macintosh-systems)** operating systems. Trellix Agent includes the DXL client, which is installed automatically on managed systems and connects to a DXL broker in your environment.

### Upgrade to Trellix Agent 5.8.x

You can [upgrade to Trellix Agent 5.8.x](/docs/upgrade-to-trellix-agent-5-8-x-1) from a previous version by creating a client task or an installation package in ePO - On-prem. The [DXL client](/docs/upgrading-the-dxl-client-1) automatically upgrades when Trellix Agent is upgraded.
