You can restore the backup from three locations:
From your local appliance.
From a remote server. Do not restore the current network settings while the appliance is performing a restore operation from a remote server.
From a USB device connected to your local machine.
Note
You can also restore a backup database belonging to a different appliance model that uses the same build. This feature is useful when you upgrade from one appliance model to another.
Usage guidelines
Follow these usage guidelines when you are restoring the database from a backup file:
The appliance will not be fully operational during the restore operation. For example, the alert detection process will stop during the restore operation.
You cannot cancel the restore operation while it is in process.
If the restore process fails, you can revert the appliance back to the factory-installed defaults. If you are restoring only the configuration database, the appliance will automatically revert back to the original configuration.
Only the config, config+fedb, and fedb backup profiles can be restored from a software upgrade. You cannot restore the backup from a software downgrade.
You cannot restore a backup from another product family.
You cannot restore a backup from a release earlier than Endpoint Security (HX) 3.0.0.
Caution
Be sure that you restore the backup of an Endpoint Security (HX) DMZ server only to another DMZ server. If you restore the backup of a DMZ server to an Endpoint Security (HX) server, you will lose critical data, including agent data, task information, alert information, and Web UI data.
Likewise, be sure you restore the backup of an Endpoint Security (HX) server only to another Endpoint Security (HX) server and not to DMZ server.
Finally, attempts to restore a backup from one version of the Endpoint Security (HX) server over a different Endpoint Security (HX) version are not supported and may fail. For example, you cannot restore a backup for Endpoint Security (HX) version 3.3.0 on an Endpoint Security (HX) server with version 3.3.1 installed. The workaround is to perform a complete new installation of the version you want on the appliance and then restore the backup of that version. In the example above, you would install a full 3.3.0 installation onto the server, and then restore the 3.3.0 backup.
Admin access
Verify that you have a backup FEBKP file of the current database before you begin the restore operation.
Locate the previous backup you want to restore.
Verify the details for the appliance, backup profile, version, hostname, and date stamp. These details are validated while the restore operation is in process.
