# Switch to sync mode

You can switch from async mode to sync mode using these commands in your standalone Mac.

### Before you begin

You must have administrator rights on the system you intend to change the mode.

### Task

1. Open a Terminal window, run the following commands in the given order.
2. Disable Threat Prevention in async mode:

`sudo /usr/local/McAfee/AntiMalware/VSControl stopoas`
3. Change Threat Prevention to sync mode:

`sudo /usr/local/McAfee/AntiMalware/VSControl switch-mode sync`
4. Enable Threat Prevention in sync mode:

`sudo /usr/local/McAfee/AntiMalware/VSControl startoas`
5. If you have installed Adaptive Threat Protection, then run these commands:
  1. Stop Adaptive Threat Protection: `sudo /usr/local/McAfee/atp/bin/ATPControl stop`
  2. Change Adaptive Threat Protection to sync mode: `sudo /usr/local/McAfee/atp/bin/ATPControl switch-mode sync`
  3. Start Adaptive Threat Protection: `sudo /usr/local/McAfee/atp/bin/ATPControl start`
