Add a license to the Manager

A license is required to enable proxy based inbound or outbound SSL decryption. This license has to be added in the Manager.

To add a license to the Manager, perform the following steps:

  1. Go to Manager → <Admin Domain Name> → Setup → Licenses.

  2. Click the Proxy Decryption tab.

    The following details are displayed on the Proxy Decryption tab:

    Displays the Sensor to which the license is assigned

    Customer — Displays the name of the customer who purchased the license

    Key — Displays the license key number

    Expiration — Displays the expiration date and time of the license

    Added

    Time — Displays the time at which the license was added to the Manager

    By — Displays the user who added the license to the Manager

    Comment

    Displays any comments for the license if any

    The Add License pop-up opens.

  4. Click Browse.

    Note

    The supported license formats are .zip and .jar.

    Navigate to the location where the license is saved. Select the license and click Open.

    Upload the license to the Manager.

    From the 11.1 Minor 6 release, the Manager facilitates the import of multiple licenses (SKU files in the .zip format). When importing multiple license files, if they contain any combination of pre-existing, expired, or invalid licenses, the Manager will skip those files with an appropriate Error message, and valid license files will be imported.

    Note

    Upgrade licenses are not supported for multiple imports. You must import the upgrade license file individually.

  5. Click Add.

    The license is added to the Manager.

  6. To assign the license to a Sensor, click Assign.

    The Assign License pop-up opens.

  7. Select a Sensor model from the Assign To drop-down list to which the license has to be assigned.

  8. Click Assign.

    A pop-up message The license has been successfully assigned appears. Click OK.

    Note

    If a valid license is not assigned to the Sensor, signature set and policy updates are disabled for the Sensor.

  9. To delete a license, select the license to be deleted and click GUID-9A719AD5-F6BE-4CD4-9311-CC6655DF9B70-low.png

    A warning message appears to confirm the deletion. Click OK.

  10. To export the list of licenses, click Save as CSV.

Use case scenarios

Starting from version 11.1.7.x, the Manager facilitates the import of multiple licenses. The following includes several scenarios related to the import of multiple licenses:

Scenario 1: When the imported licenses contain pre-existing licenses

When you import the licenses and they contain the licenses that are pre-existing in the pool (both assigned or unassigned licenses), an Error dialog box will be displayed.

Scenario 2: When the imported licenses contain both baseline and upgrade licenses

When importing licenses that contain baseline and upgrade licenses, the upgrade licenses will not be imported, and an Error dialog box will be displayed. You must extract the upgrade licenses and import them individually.

Scenario 3: When the imported licenses contain licenses that are expired

When you import the licenses, and one or more licenses have expired, an Error dialog box will be displayed.

Scenario 4: When the imported licenses contain licenses that are a combination of existing and expired license

When you import the licenses and they contain the existing and expired licenses in the pool, a Warning dialog box will be displayed.

Scenario 5: When the license import is successful

When the import of licenses is successful, an Informational dialog box will be displayed.
