Configuring automatic URL category updates using the CLI

Use the commands in this section to configure automatic URL category updates. By default, the latest URL categories are automatically downloaded to the appliance every 12 hours.

Note

Use the no url-category db auto-download enable command to disable automatic URL category updates.

To configure automatic URL category updates:
  1. Go to CLI configuration mode.

    hostname > enable
    hostname # configure terminal
  2. Enable automatic updates of URL categories on the Network Security appliance.

    hostname (config) # url-category db auto-download enable
  3. Specify how often to download the URL category updates to the Network Security appliance.

    • To update in 6 hours, enter the following command:

      hostname (config) # url-category db auto-download frequency SixHours
    • To update in 12 hours, enter the following command:

      hostname (config) # url-category db auto-download frequency TwelveHours
    • To update in 24 hours, enter the following command:

      hostname (config) # url-category db auto-download frequency TwentyFourHours
  4. Verify the status of the database configuration for the URL categories.

    hostname (config) # show url-category db status
         DB Version           : 3843
         URL engine version   : 4016
         Update Status        : No update in progress
         Auto update state    : Auto Update Enabled
         Auto update freq     : 12 Hours
         Last Update  Status  : success
         Last Success Update  : Mon Jun  4 16:45:52 2018
         Last Update time     : Mon Jun  4 16:45:52 2018

    The "Update Status" line displays "No update in progress" after new URL categories are downloaded from the third-party categorization database. The "Update Status" line also displays "In Progress" when new URL categories are available.
