Create a registered application

A registered application is created in the Azure console which is required to generate the application key. The application key is required for the Controller and Manager communication. The Controller discovers the cloud instance details with the help of the application key. The Controller retrieves information about users from the Manager.

Before you begin

Make sure you have access to the following:

  • Azure Active Directory
  • Creating registered application

To create a registered application in Azure, perform the following steps:

Task

  1. Click All services. Under IDENTITY category, click App registrations.
    The App registrations blade opens.
  2. Click New registration.
    The Register an application blade opens.
  3. Enter the name for the application.

    Tip

    A green tick mark appears after Azure validates the name.

  4. Select the Supported account types. By default, Accounts in this organizational directory only is selected.
  5. Click Register.
    The newly created application blade opens along with the details of the application.
  6. Click the Certificates & secrets option in the Manage blade.
  7. Click New client secret in the Client secrets section.
  8. Enter a description for the key.
  9. Select the expiry for the key.
  10. Click Add.
    A key value is generated once you save the key. Copy the key and store it carefully as this is required when you create a Controller.

    Note

    The key is available only when the registered application is created for the first time.

  11. Click All services. Under GENERAL category, click Subscription.
  12. Select the subscription of your choice for vIPS deployment.
  13. In the Subscription page, click Access Control (IAM).
  14. In the Access Control (IAM) page, under Grant access to this resource,click Add role assignments.
  15. In Add role assignment window, enter the following:
    Option Definition
    Role Select a pre-defined role from the drop-down. The minimum required role is Reader. You can select Contributor or Owner as well.
    Assign access to Select User, group or service principal.
    Select Search and select the registered application for which the role needs to be assigned.
  16. Click Save.
  17. [Optional] Repeat steps 11-16 for using same registered application in multiple Subscriptions or accounts.
