Deploying virtual Network Security appliances on Amazon Web Services (AWS)

An AMI (Amazon Machine Image) is a template that contains the software configuration needed to deploy a virtual Network Security appliance (known as an instance in AWS). The software configuration includes the operating system, application server, and applications that are needed to deploy the appliance.

You can use AWS CloudFormation to quickly deploy a Network Security instance with fewer manual steps. You define the resources for the instance by entering values in an AWS CloudFormation template. You can alternatively use a more manual process to deploy the virtual machine. Both methods are covered in the following topics:
