Generating an SSH client identity and importing keys using the CLI

Use the CLI commands in this topic to generate a new identify that allows you to open a Secure Shell (SSH) session on another device from this appliance.

Prerequisites
  • Any role

To generate a new SSH client identity for yourself on this appliance:
  1. Log in to the CLI as yourself.

  2. Go to CLI configuration mode:

    hostname > enable
    hostname # configure terminal
  3. Generate a new identity that allows you to open a Secure Shell (SSH) session on another device from this appliance. Use the following command:

    hostname # ssh client user <username> identity <rsa2|dsa2> generate

  4. View your own SSH client identities:

    hostname (config) # show ssh client
  5. (Operator role only) Save your changes:

    hostname (config) # write memory
To import keys
  • Import an SSH key pair

    hostname (config) # ssh client user <username> identity <rsa2|dsa2> <private-key|public-key>
  • Import a public key

    hostname (config) # ssh client user <username> authorized-key sshv2 <public SSH key>
