Prerequisites:
Make sure that you have the Virtual Sensor installation file and it is accessible from your client machine
In case you plan to use all the monitoring ports of the Sensor, you will require six Open vSwitches with DPDK configuration (vhostuser ports) to connect these ports. You can connect the management and response ports via the bridge or OVS-DPDK configuration. In case you plan to connect these ports also to the Open vSwitches, you will require two additional ports vhostuser ports.
In this section, we will be demonstrating the installation of IPS-VM5000 Sensor, assuming the Sensor software version is 11.1.5.45
Steps:
Copy the sensorsw_vm5000_111545.zip file to a suitable location on your KVM host.
Create a directory where you plan to store the extracted files.
Launch a command line terminal, change the current working directory to the newly created directory and unzip the compressed file to it. Below is a sample command to unzip the file to a folder named KVM_VM5000:
unzip sensorsw_vm5000_111545.zip -d KVM_VM5000
This extracts sensorsw_vm5000_111545.qcow to the directory and creates another directory internally named KVM-5000 which contains the install and uninstall python scripts, README file, and the virtual machine default configuration XML file.
Navigate to the KVM-5000 directory by executing the command
mkdir KVM-5000.The install.py script located in this directory helps in creating the virtual machine. Sample command to create the machine:
python3 install.py GS_KVM5K1 /home/GS_KVM5K1/ sensorsw_vm5000_111545.qcow vmips5000 em2
where:
GS_KVM1 is the name given to the virtual machine
/home/GS_KVM5K1/sensorsw_vm5000_111545.qcow is the location of the qcow image
vmips5000 represents IPS-VM5000.
In case you are installing IPS-VM600, you need to specify the model number as vmips600 em2
is the management interface.Upon successful creation of the virtual machine, you will see a message at the end of the terminal stating the domain has started.
A new configuration XML file will be created for this virtual machine. You need to edit the file by referring to Sample XML file.
Upon updating the configuration file and saving it, you need to restart the virtual machine instance for the changes to take place. To restart, issue the commands
virsh destroy <VM_NAME>andvirsh start <VM_NAME>, where<VM_NAME>denotes the name of the Sensor virtual machine. To launch the virtual machine instance, issue the command virsh console
<VM_NAME>.Sample command:
virsh console GS_KVM5K1
Use the default credentials to log on to the Virtual IPS Sensor.
Default credentials to all Sensors are:
Username:
adminPassword:
admin123The Virtual IPS Sensor setup begins.
