Root partition extension for Linux-based Manager in AWS Public Cloud

Prev Next

If you need to extend the root partition size for Linux-based Manager in AWS beyond the default size (150 GB), perform the following steps:

Task

  1. Log on to the SSH Client using default user name and SSH key.
  2. Execute df -hT to verify the file system in use for each volume.

    Sample Output:

Filesystem   Type     Size    Used   Avail   Use%   Mounted on
    tmpfs        tmpfs    3.7G    351M   3.3G    10%    /run
    /dev/xvda1   xfs      80G     19G    130G    13%    /
    /dev         tmpfs    3.7G    0      3.7G    0%     /dev
    tmpfs        tmpfs    3.7G    0      3.7G    0%     /dev/shm
    tmpfs        tmpfs    3.7G    0      3.7G    0%     /sys/fs/cgroup
    tmpfs        tmpfs    3.7G    76K    3.7G    1%     /tmp
    tmpfs        tmpfs    746M    0      746M    0%     /run/user/0
    tmpfs        tmpfs    746M    0      746M    0%     /run/user/1000

  3. Provide lsblk to display information about the partitions available in your instance.

    Sample Output:

NAME     MAJ:MIN  RM   SIZE    RO   TYPE   MOUNTPOINT
    xvda     202:0    0    150G    0    disk
    `-xvda1  202:1    0    80G     0    part   /

  4. You can extend the partition to a full size by executing growpart as shown below:
    growpart /dev/xvda1

  5. To verify that the partitions reflect the increased volume size, execute lsblk.

    Sample Output:

NAME     MAJ:MIN  RM   SIZE    RO   TYPE   MOUNTPOINT
    xvda     202:0    0    150G    0    disk
    `-xvda1  202:1    0    150G    0    part   /

  6. You can verify the size of the file system for each volume by providing df -h.
