To deploy Virtual IPS Sensors on KVM, make sure you have installed KVM on a Linux operating system such as CentOS 7. Through the Linux operating system, install the Virtual IPS Sensor and establish trust with a Manager. Once you have established trust, the Virtual IPS Sensor is ready to be configured to protect your network. How you configure the Virtual IPS Sensor, however, depends on the network architecture and your security needs.
The following is a high-level procedure that you can consider to install and subsequently deploy a Virtual IPS Sensor:
Verify your KVM setup meets the server requirements. See Requirements for deploying the Virtual Sensor.
Install KVM on a Linux machine. For installation, refer to Installing KVM on a Linux Machine.
Install and configure Open Virtual Switch (OVS) with Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) on the host machine. See Install and configure OVS with DPDK on the host machine.
Install the Virtual IPS Sensor through:
Command line interface by referring to the section Install a Virtual IPS Sensor through the command prompt.
Note
This guide demonstrates the above steps on CentOS 7 operating system. So, all the commands used in the forthcoming installation sections refer to CentOS.
(or)
KVM user interface by referring to the section Install a Virtual IPS Sensor through the KVM user interface.
Add the Virtual Sensor in the Manager. For more details, see the section Add the Virtual Sensor in the Manager.
