Install the passive fail-open switch in a rack

Prev Next

Prerequisites:

  • Identify the rack in which you plan to install the fail-open switch.

  • If you are using a physical Sensor, make sure that you can physically connect the fail-open switch with the monitoring ports.

You can install between one and three fail-open switches in a rack-mount panel. The rack-mount panel described in this section is included in the contents of the fail-open kit.

Note

This procedure is optional; if you do not want to install the fail-open in a rack, you can set up the switch directly on top of the Sensor or another network device.

Steps:

  1. Slide the switch into the center opening in the rack-mount panel, until the face plate of the switch rests against the panel.

  2. Secure the switch to the rack-mount panel by inserting screws provided through the holes on the fail-open switch face plate and into the panel.

    Note

Additional fail-open switches can be installed without removing the rack-mount panel from the rack.

  3. Place the 1U panel against the front of a standard 19-inch rack.

  4. Secure the rack-mount panel by inserting screws (included with the rack-mount panel) through the holes on the front of the panel and the sides of the rack.

  5. (Optional) Install up to two additional switches by following these steps:

    1. Remove screws holding one of the removable blank plates from the front of the panel.

    2. Follow steps 1 and 2 of this procedure for installing a switch in the rack-mount panel for additional fail-open switches.

Result: The fail-open switch is ready to be connected to a Sensor.
