Virtual IPS Sensors can be upgraded based on the following considerations:
For a standalone Virtual IPS Sensor, launch a new Sensor instance with the latest software version along with the user data from existing Sensor so that the Sensor is deployed in the existing cluster. Terminate the Sensor with the older software version. Signature set upgrade fails for the vIPS Cluster till the older Sensor version is terminated.
You can create a new vIPS Cluster with the new Virtual IPS Sensor AMI and user data with the latest Sensor software version.
All Sensors in a cluster should be upgraded to the same Sensor software version for configuration update from the Manager to be successful.
If you upgrade the Manager to the latest Manager software version, the Virtual IPS Sensors have to be upgraded to the latest Sensor software version as well.
