Configuration flow

Following is configuration process after the deployment of the cloud solution components:

1. The Trellix IPS Manager is deployed first. All the other components then establish communication with the Manager.

   Note

   Local Controller instance is automatically deployed with the Manager.

   After deploying the Manager, you can deploy the rest of the components in any order. It is recommended that you follow the steps below to configure vIPS in public cloud environment.

2. vIPS External Controller is launched as an instance which first establishes trust with the Manager. If you are using the Local Controller, you can configure it on the vIPS Controllers tab in the Device Manager page.

3. The Virtual IPS Sensor is also launched as an instance which establishes trust with the Manager as well as the Controller.
4. The vIPS Probe is deployed on the instances to be protected. The Probe uses SSL over TCP to connect to Controller and UDP to establish communication with the Sensor to direct the traffic for inspection. The Manager communicates with the Probe through the Controller.

   Note

   After the vIPS Probe is installed in the instance, it contacts the Manager. The Manager then assigns the Controller to the Probe based on the Protected VM configured.
